Newsletter – December 2022

On 15 December 2022 Aseema will have completed 25 years of bringing a change in the lives of over 9,000 children from marginalized communities through high quality, holistic, value-based education. What better time than this milestone, to celebrate the launch of a film on Aseema’s journey over the years!
It feels like it was just yesterday when we embarked on this journey, teaching a small group of 18 students. It feels like it was just yesterday when our first school opened its doors to some of the brightest minds in Bandra. It feels like it was just yesterday that Aseema sowed its first seed of hope, with the dream of realising human potential through quality education. Look at all that we have managed to achieve and how far we have come!
We are extremely blessed to have found like-minded people, who believe in our mission and have stood by us. Thank you all for your support. It gives us immense pleasure in celebrating our journey with this short video. A journey that would not have been possible, without YOU!

Announcing: The Pereirawadi Municipal School!

Yet another highlight of our 25th year – we are all set to embark on our 4th project in Mumbai! The Pereirawadi Municipal School has been adopted by Aseema and we look forward to recreating the safe, nurturing environment that is an integral part of the learning experience at all Aseema schools.
With the increasing demand for admissions to our schools, we are in need of more classrooms and spaces to do justice to the curriculum and provide quality education to the greatest number of students. The restoration of the Pereirawadi Municipal School is being carried out with full momentum. We hope to have the building restored and ready to welcome our Std. 8-10 students in the new academic year. Our deadline for completion of the project is March 2023 and we reach out to you to support us in this endeavour. Every little contribution counts. Please write to donors@aseema.org if you would like to partner with us in building our new school.

The Tree Singing Concert

‘Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.’
Our children enjoy and learn music with the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation (MMMF). This enables them to soar beyond the boundaries of their minds and imagination, bringing joy to everyone and themselves.
On 27 August, 31 students from Pali Chimbai Municipal School were part of the Singing Tree Concert. Their angelic voices kept the audience enthralled with their rendition of ‘Yaaron’ and ‘Circle of Life’ from ‘The Lion King’, with the other choirs in the finale. Proud parents attended the concert to listen to their children perform on stage at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai.

Women in Aviation India

Our secondary section students participated in a session by Women in Aviation India in September. Women in Aviation India is an NGO created by women stalwarts of the aviation industry who are passionate to give back meaningfully to the future generation. They have a single-minded objective to reach out to women across sections of society by mentoring and educating them in different verticals of aviation. As part of their core initiatives, they held a session to mentor students in a career in the field of aviation. Students came back inspired, with many having new career goals of soaring the skies.

The Aseema Calendar 2023 is here!

Women – strong, resilient, fearless.

Every day we come across inspirational women at Aseema. The teacher who stays back at school every day, helping her students overcome their challenges and goes home to a family that questions her career choices. The didi who has no family to go back to, but cares for our students like they are her own children. The young girl who overcomes every obstacle her family raises, day after day, to her studying further. The mother who braves an unsupportive spouse, to fight for her daughter’s right to education.
This year, the Aseema Alumni have put together a range of beautiful artworks that honour, respect and celebrate women and womankind.
The paintings embark on a journey through India and across the world. From Rajasthan to Kashmir, from Persia to Mexico and the influence of Frida Kahlo, each artwork has a story and style unique to itself. Each artwork is a vivid amalgamation of traditional symbols, native clothing and aesthetic designs. However, the captivating focus of each remains the woman.
